Bought this TV on an auction site. Device was completely demolished. Unfortunately it was not mentioned in the ad.
Philips 17TX291A foto 2
Line transformer hung strangely loose in the high voltage cage. Booster capacitor was not present including mounting hardware.
Philips 17TX291A foto 3
Fortunately, the bottom seems OK.
Philips 17TX291A foto 4
Loose wires everywhere. Crazy how you can destroy such a device.
Philips 17TX291A foto 5
Oh poor device what ever happened to you.
Philips 17TX291A foto 6
Just a loose booster capacitor. Against all knowledge. A test of the high voltage. Unfortunately no luck.
Philips 17TX291A foto 7
Well this is sad. A tube socket wrapped in duct tape. Intended for the high voltage rectifier 18 Kilo volts.
Philips 17TX291A foto 8
The top coil of the line transformer is defective.
Philips 17TX291A foto 9
But we can replace the top coil. As long as it is a coil for a 110 degree picture tube it will work a bit.
Philips 17TX291A foto 10
Everything is back together transformer back into the TV and ......
Philips 17TX291A foto 11
You don't believe it. The high voltage works. But unfortunately no picture.
Philips 17TX291A foto 12
Can you see why there is no picture? See next picture for the solution.
Philips 17TX291A foto 13
Now you know why there was no picture.
Philips 17TX291A foto 14
See the image here. The generator had to be on minimum signal to get a visible picture heavy in the snow. The mf avr does not work.
Philips 17TX291A foto 15
Because the Avr control works with pulses from the high voltage. sits the circuit on the back of the high voltage cage. You cannot measure it when the device is assembled.
Philips 17TX291A foto 16
More was broken parts. This is the Vhf / Uhf switch.
Philips 17TX291A foto 17
Because the chassis is a mud tank, we will first clean it.
Philips 17TX291A foto 18
Here you get an idea of how filthy it was. That can never be healthy to work on.
Philips 17TX291A foto 19
Look here the chassis shines like new again.
Philips 17TX291A foto 20
Such a channel selector can also be cleaned.
Philips 17TX291A foto 21
It can be completely disassembled for cleaning.
Philips 17TX291A foto 22
Now you can safely work on it. Without contracting a scary disease.
Philips 17TX291A foto 23
This was the setup during measurement. No picture tube but you don't need it. The filament of the picture tube is connected through. Deflector yoke loose. Connected. The high voltage had to work. Otherwise the Avr just won't work.
Philips 17TX291A foto 24
The cause of the RF agc is R63. A VDR with which the pulses from the high voltage are rectified.
Philips 17TX291A foto 25
Here you can see that the Avr is not working and the video freezes completely.
Philips 17TX291A foto 26
And here after repair it works again as we are used to from a Philips TV.
Philips 17TX291A foto 27
The chassis ready to be built into the cabinet.
Philips 17TX291A foto 28
But wait a minute more dirt. Enough to get a scary disease.
Philips 17TX291A foto 29
Everything shines like new again.
Philips 17TX291A foto 30
All parts installed. Also that beautiful tar condenser.
Philips 17TX291A foto 31
The first image. A few more adjustments and......
Philips 17TX291A foto 32
What else can I say.
Philips 17TX291A foto 33
The Adventures of Swiebertje.
