Philips 17TX291A

Radiotechniek album
Bought this TV on an auction site. Device was completely demolished. Unfortunately it was not mentioned in the ad.
Line transformer hung strangely loose in the high voltage cage. Booster capacitor was not present including mounting hardware.
Fortunately, the bottom seems OK.
Loose wires everywhere. Crazy how you can destroy such a device.
Oh poor device what ever happened to you.
Just a loose booster capacitor. Against all knowledge. A test of the high voltage. Unfortunately no luck.
Well this is sad. A tube socket wrapped in duct tape. Intended for the high voltage rectifier 18 Kilo volts.
The top coil of the line transformer is defective.
But we can replace the top coil. As long as it is a coil for a 110 degree picture tube it will work a bit.
Everything is back together transformer back into the TV and ......
You don't believe it. The high voltage works. But unfortunately no picture.
Can you see why there is no picture? See next picture for the solution.
Now you know why there was no picture.
See the image here. The generator had to be on minimum signal to get a visible picture heavy in the snow. The mf avr does not work.
Because the Avr control works with pulses from the high voltage. sits the circuit on the back of the high voltage cage. You cannot measure it when the device is assembled.
More was broken parts. This is the Vhf / Uhf switch.
Because the chassis is a mud tank, we will first clean it.
Here you get an idea of how filthy it was. That can never be healthy to work on.
Look here the chassis shines like new again.
Such a channel selector can also be cleaned.
It can be completely disassembled for cleaning.
Now you can safely work on it. Without contracting a scary disease.
Here you can see that the Avr is not working and the video freezes completely.
And here after repair it works again as we are used to from a Philips TV.
This was the setup during measurement. No picture tube but you don't need it. The filament of the picture tube is connected through. Deflector yoke loose. Connected. The high voltage had to work. Otherwise the Avr just won't work.
The cause of the RF agc is R63. A VDR with which the pulses from the high voltage are rectified.
The chassis ready to be built into the cabinet.
But wait a minute more dirt. Enough to get a scary disease.
Everything shines like new again.
All parts installed. Also that beautiful tar condenser.
The first image. A few more adjustments and......
What else can I say.
The Adventures of Swiebertje.
